John Barkeby is known from only one source so far, but it is quite a good one.
He was rector of Eversholt church around 1391. Quite when he was appointed is not clear. He paid two shillings per year to the diocese for the privilege of being rector.
He was assisted by Nicholaus Smyth (or Nicholas Smith), capellanus or chaplain, who could say mass. Nicholas also paid two shillings per year. Plus there was Johannes Clerk, a clericus (churchman of indefined but low standing) who paid 4d per year.
