John Slow

John Slow, or John Flow, or John Flowe, is the earliest rector of Eversholt mentioned in the CCED database. That was in 1540, when there was a visitation – an inspection by the bishop to make sure everything was OK. According to both the Beds archive listing and the poster in the church, (which may well have the same source) he was appointed rector in 1507. He was still rector in 1553, when the dissolution inventory was made. CCED doesn’t have his name, but says that a rector died in 1557. If that was John Slow, then he was rector for 50 years, probably a record.
