Swimming Pool

The swimming pool was created around 1920, when the Duke is alleged to have given the land in a desperate attempt to stop kids swimming in the Linden fishponds! It was famed as an informal watering hole which swimmers shared with frogs.

A major upgrade was undertaken around 1960. Chris Hawkes, then a schoolboy, made a scrapbook about it. He very kindly leant it for copying and gave permission for it to be published. He owns the copyright of most of the book, but not all. If you’d like any of these images removed, please leave a comment. Thank you very much, Chris!
